Following last week's overturned-tugboat cliffhanger on 1923, fans invested in Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra's (Julia Schlaepfer) arduous journey are likely dying to learn the fate of their favorite 1923 couple. Thankfully, the season's sixth episode, titled \"One Ocean Closer to Destiny,\" returns to the site of the accident and relieves our bated breath...but not until after the opening credits roll. Let's recap!
While having some much-needed drinks with the seasoned mariner, the pair learn they still have a very long journey ahead. The ship is destined for Marseille and, given Spencer's US citizenship, the trip will likely be further slowed by immigration issues. This leads Spencer to propose to Alex. He loves her, of course, but the citizenship is a nice benefit.
I have no doubt that 1923 will drag it out as long as possible, putting them in danger's path again and again. We're going to be put through the wringer again and again, but if each near-calamitous circumstance rewards us with fiery and passionate scenes of love and survival, it will be an outstanding journey.
The two of them share vows and within two weeks become the second Dutton couple to exchange them. Season 1 episode 7 of 1923 airs on February 19 on Paramount Plus with just one more episode to go directly following.
Paramount Plus series 1923 picks up after the events of 1883, delving into the early 20th century when historic drought, pandemics, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plagued the mountain west.
After a brief mid-season hiatus, 1923 is back with further family drama, explosive storylines and never-ending tension. As if the returning second part of the season wasn't reason to celebrate enough, fans will also be thrilled to hear that 1923 has been renewed for a second season, with Ford and Mirren set to return to their lead roles.
Alternatively, if you want to re-watch (or perhaps don't have a Paramount Plus subscription), 1923 has now started airing on Channel 5 with the first episode having aired on Thursday 9th February at 10pm and the rest of the season being released weekly.
Of course, we know them to be the successful family of ranchers in the most recent seasons of the hit drama, so this prequel series only gives us an insight into the family members that came before them. Spoilers ahead...
With Teonna's (Aminah Nieves) escape plan fully in motion and marshals on the hunt for her, in the sixth episode, we see one of them push her grandmother Issaxche in their search, but she hits her head and dies.
As mentioned, 1923 can be watched exclusively on Paramount+ with a subscription. The streaming platform has plans as low as $4.99 a month. New streaming customers can get a 7-day free trial or a Walmart+ subscription plan.
1923 is an American Western drama television series that premiered on December 18, 2022, on Paramount+.[1] The series is a prequel to the Paramount Network series Yellowstone and serves as a sequel to the series 1883. In February 2023, the series was renewed for a second season of eight episodes.
Follows a generation of the Dutton family in 1923, during a time of various hardships including Prohibition, drought, and the early stages of the Great Depression, which affected Montana long before the 1929 Stock Market Crash.
On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, 1923 holds a 91% approval rating with an average rating of 7.0/10, based on 32 reviews by critics. The website's consensus reads, \"Distinguished by the ineffable star power of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, 1923 is another solid if unrelentingly grim addition to Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe.\"[39] On Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, the series has received a score of 67 out of 100 based on 15 critic reviews, indicating \"generally favorable reviews\".[40]
The episode title, \"One Ocean Closer to Destiny\" is a direct reference to Spencer and Alex's journey, who we last saw stuck inside a capsized boat off the coast of Africa. Teonna Rainwater is still on the run and Jacob Dutton is still on the mend.
The episode opens with Teonna, now seemingly safe in the company of Hank. They decide to dress her in boys' clothes, and burn her school clothes, but out of fear of retribution, they bury the bibles instead of burning them too.
Ignoring his instructions, she sees a safety ring and goes after it, but the current drags her away from the boat. Spencer saves her again as she admits it wasn't her brightest moment. Actress Julia Schlaepfer had told Newsweek that the stunts she had to perform in Episode 6 were the hardest she did for 1923.
At the beginning of the episode, Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) is told to choose a male name to go by while disguised as a boy. She initially suggests Hank Junior, which amuses Hank (Michael Greyeyes).
Viewers might recall that in episode three, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) refused to leave behind his weathered rope after being rescued following his and Alexandra's (Julia Schlaepfer) ill-fated jaunt out in the African countryside.
In this episode, we see the rope come into play again, as Spencer uses it to help navigate Alex out of the overturned tugboat following their collision with the ghost ship at the end of last week's episode.
It's the \"trash can for everyone who's ever attacked us\" that lies in a \"jurisdictional dead zone,\" as John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) put it in the midseason finale of the most recent season of the flagship series.
Clive/Clyde was one of the three sheepherders who made it out alive after ambushing the Duttons in episode three. In episode four, he, Creighton, and an unnamed man were seen having a debrief following the gunfight.
However, this episode brought up some questions about whether both, or either, women will actually become mothers, or live long enough to see their children born. In Elizabeth's case, there's the lingering question of whether the gunshot wound to her stomach will have an effect on her ability to carry a child to full term.
There's every chance that Alex's cough could be explained away by the fact that she had just downed whisky or that she had swallowed a great deal of saltwater when the tugboat capsized, but we shouldn't forget that there were details in the previous episode that indicated that Lucca may have inadvertently infected the couple.
In true Yellowstone fashion, 1923 has been filled to the brim with shocking moments. Be it unexpected deaths, brutal attacks, or perilous hardships, the prequel series knows how to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Viewers had spent several episodes getting to know the lovable, wise Hank. His death came at the hands of a priest who they seemingly struck dead moments before, leaving Teonna in horrified disbelief.
Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for Episode 6 of 1923.Harrison Ford has shown us all that he's thriving on television. With both 1923 and Shrinking airing at the same time, we're getting plenty of Ford each week but in Episode 6 of 1923, titled \"One Ocean Closer to Destiny,\" Ford as Jacob Dutton gave us a speech that really brought to the forefront everything that Yellowstone is all about. For the most part, the Taylor Sheridan universe has been building around this one issue: The land.
In 1923, we're just starting to see the people who want to turn Montana into the busy cities that litter the United States, and Jacob is talking with Cara (Helen Mirren) about it when Ford delivers a speech that really just highlights what this world has always been about. It's simple, and understated, showing not only the power that Ford has as Jacob but also what Sheridan has been trying to tell audiences from the start of the series.
1923 has become the most recent prequel series to join the Yellowstone universe. The thrilling spin-off follows the Dutton family as they operate the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in the early 20th century.
I love the entire Dutton family saga. I watched 1883 twice and am looking forward to the second season of 1923. Ann Mirrem and Harrison Ford are great together. Kevin Costner will be missed. Do you really want to leave Please reconsider. All of the cast members are very talented and believable in their roles.Beautiful scenery
Odds are, Sheridan is well aware of the intrigue that this story could provide and with that, he also will have no real reason to slow-play it. If the aftermath of this is not in the opening minutes of episode 6, we would be shocked! This is the perfect opportunity to keep people engaged and/or guessing what the next move will be for them.
Whatever the future of Yellowstone may be, it has been a real treat exploring the Dutton's past, first in 1883 and now in 1923. Even in an episode like \"One Ocean Closer to Destiny\" that is mostly setup for what's to come or some additional character moments, the scale and epicness of the TV western is so much fun to watch.
It's not until after the opening credits that we head back to Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alex's (Julia Schlaepfer) shipwreck that closed out episode 5. They have survived, if just barely, and all of their hope relies on if the boat that Spencer was able to contact before the wreck can find them. In the meantime, they must contend with a lack of water, the beating sun and, eventually, a group of sharks that circle them.
The last portion of the episode is spent with Spencer and Alex, who after surviving all day are rescued by a boat. They meet with the captain, who tells them they are going to Marseille, where they can then get a ship to America.
1923 episode five saw the Dutton family deal with the tragic murder of John Dutton following the ambush led by Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn). The Yellowstone clan is in need of assistance and so Clara Dutton (Helen Mirren) writes to Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) asking for him to return from Africa, but how is he going to get home Here's all there is to know about the cast of 1923 episode six. 59ce067264
