It aired on September 26, 2013.
Thomas plans to go to Cheltenham races in order to get closer to Billy Kimber. Knowing the gangster's appetite for beautiful women, Thomas invites Grace to accompany him. Meanwhile, some IRA sympathisers approach Thomas with an offer to buy the stolen guns.
Two men (members of the IRA) meet with Thomas at The Garrison Pub while Grace listens in from behind a wall. They tell Thomas that they would pay good money for the stolen guns from the BSA factory, should the Peaky Blinders gang be in possession of them.
Arthur tells Thomas that he has no idea what is going on, and Thomas tells him that the Peaky Blinders have the stolen machine guns. He also shows Arthur The Garrison Pub and tells him that it is his.
Freddie puts a gun to Thomas' head and returns the money that Polly had given them to get out of town. Freddie asks Thomas about the stolen guns. Thomas pulls a gun on him and tells him the marriage to his sister will not stand.
Thomas has another nightmare of the War. Danny wakes him up from it and tells him that an IRA man -- the man that Grace killed -- has been shot, and they're blaming it on the Peaky Blinders. Thomas tells him to ask for a parley, because there's been a misunderstanding and they don't want any trouble.
The next morning, Thomas and Grace head to the Cheltenham Races, while the Peaky Blinders get ready to stop the Lee family at the races. The pair sneak in the back way and present themselves under different names.
Thomas makes a deal with Kimber. He offers members of the Peaky Blinders as security for Kimber, in exchange for five percent of the money they save from being taken, as well as 3 legal betting pitches at every race north of the River Severn. Kimber says yes to the deal, adding that he wants to have Grace for two hours. Thomas tells Grace to go on with Kimber alone while he finishes up with the accountant.
Uhtred and Brida remain locked in a prison cell at the behest of Alfred. Uhtred is determined to use the Saxons to his personal advantage, but Brida is adamant in her refusal of the Saxon way. She doesn't understand their restrictive piety, dictated by their God, which is so different from the vivacity of the Viking way.
Wessex; At the peace talk, Danish Earls Ubba and Guthrum arrive. They are surprised to see Uhtred standing with the Saxons. Guthrum demands payment in land, silver, grain, and livestock for peace whilst Ubba would simply appreciate Uhtred's head.
Winchester, Wessex; Æthelwold returns to the palace from his night of drunken whoring to find out that his father has already passed and Alfred has already been named the next successor of the kingdom of Wessex. To ensure the transition goes smoothly in a time of division and strife, Lord Odda the Elder has Æthelwold kidnapped by Leofric and sent off to a monastery in Hampton.
Finally released from imprisonment, Uhtred and Brida are less than pleased and demand some sort of repayment for their tip offs. But Alfred has bigger plans in mind. He gifts Uhtred with a Saxon mail coat and helmet and promises him a Saxon marriage which will entitle him to Wessex lands and therefore an Ealdorman title. It is his goal to use Uhtred's Danish knowledge and sword for a service term of one year to take back English lands from his enemies, whilst dangling the deliverance of Bebbanburg over his head.
Wessex woods; Brida, increasingly bitter of Uhtred's submission to the miserable Saxons, goes off into the woods and makes a mushroom ale to induce psychic visions, where she sees herself on Young Ragnar's Viking ship, Wind-Viper, sailing at his side. When she wakes, she is tries to convince Uhtred that their fate lies elsewhere than Wessex, but he has already taken a step towards pledging allegiance to Alfred by agreeing to attend the post-battle negotiations.
Wessex; Alfred, the newly anointed as king, is firm in his decision to not give up any more land. He demands the heathen Danes return to London and confine themselves to Mercia, East Anglia, and Northumbria. A compromise is agreed upon and later that night in the English camp, Alfred and his Witan begin their long term plan to defeat the Danes in the years ahead.
Wessex woods; The next day, Brida stumbles through the woods by herself, suffering from a painful miscarriage. Uhtred finds her weak and crying and buries the remains, a sign of a passing and the growing rift between the two childhood friends and lovers.
Wessex woods; The same figure creeps up on Brida as she digs in the forest for Ragnar's silver she has kept safely hidden all this time. The figure is none other than Young Ragnar, who has returned from Irland.
The next evening, the reunion between the two 'brothers' is tense. Young Ragnar demands the truth of his father's death. Uhtred, still pained by the event, yields his dagger to Young Ragnar if he would truly believe he could kill their father. Relief washes over Young Ragnar as he rushes in to embrace Uhtred and Brida. They vow revenge on Kjartan, but with a carefully calculated plan. Brida does not hesitate to accompany Ragnar on his ship, but Uhtred reveals he has already sworn his oath to Alfred. Ragnar, fair and loyal like his father, acknowledges the oath and will wait until they can kill Kjartan together.
Wessex; Uhtred watches Ragnar and Brida, the two remaining figures of his childhood, sail away together. He hopes to see them in a year when his service is done, but as Leofric poignantly asks of him, \"who will you be in a year\" Uhtred of Bebbanburg or Uhtred Ragnarsson
(CUT TO ROSS') ROSS: (SCORNFUL) Grab a spoon. Do you know how long it's been since I've grabbed a spoon Do the words 'Billy, don't be a hero' mean anything to you Y'know, here's the thing. Even if I could get it together enough to- to ask a woman out,... who am I gonna ask (GAZES OUT OF THE WINDOW)
JOEY: Congratulations. And while you're on a roll, if you feel like you gotta make like a Western omelette or something... (JOEY AND CHANDLER TASTE THE COFFEE, GRIMACE, AND POUR IT INTO A PLANT POT) Although actually I'm really not that hungry...
MONICA: Oh wait, wait, unless you happened to catch the Reruns' production of Pinocchio. CHANDLER: 'Look, Gippetto, I'm a real live boy.' JOEY: I will not take this abuse. (WALKS TO DOOR AND OPENS IT TO LEAVE)
ROSS: I assume we're looking for an answer more sophisticated than 'to get you into bed'. MONICA: Is it me Is it like I have some sort of beacon that only dogs and men with severe emotional problems can hear
PHOEBE: You're welcome. I remember when I first came to this city. I was fourteen. My mom had just killed herself and my step-dad was back in prison, and I got here, and I didn't know anybody. And I ended up living with this albino guy who was, like, cleaning windows outside port authority, and then he killed himself, and then I found aromatherapy. So believe me, I know exactly how you feel.
Episode 1.3 is the third episode of the first series of Primeval. It was broadcast as Helen Makes Contact[1] in North America, Unter Wasser (Submerged)[2] in Germany and La Clef Du Temps (The Key of Time)[3] in France.
\"Cutter tries to find the mobile Anomaly through which an ancient sea monster has travelled to the 21st century, attacking two lifeguards [...] at a swimming pool. Meanwhile, Claudia's suspicions are confirmed when the body of a diver is found - with a message from Helen attached.\"[4]
At an empty swimming pool in the Crystal Palace Diving Institute, a lifeguard, Anthony Barton, dives into the pool and joins his girlfriend, Diane Johnson, there, before Diane swims off and heads out of the pool, while Anthony stays behind in it. Diane heads down to the changing rooms, while Anthony stays and relaxes in the pool, until he nears something nearby splash in the pool. In the changing rooms, Diane is drying her hair, while back at the pool, Anthony heads up to the diving board to dive into the pool again. Just before Anthony dives, a giant marine reptile appears in the pool below him, and just as Anthony dives, the marine reptile dives up at him and catches him in its jaws in the air, swallowing him whole before falling back down into the pool. In the changing rooms, Diane hears something and goes back up to the pool, where she finds Anthony gone. Diane then heads down to a viewing port for the pool, where the giant marine reptile smashes against the port glass with its head, spooking and horrifying Diane.
At the Home Office, Nick Cutter, Claudia Brown, James Lester and a meeting of Home Office officials are watching a live camera report being sent by Connor Temple from the London Underground Anomaly site on the Anomaly's status; it's magnetic field is remaining consistent at five tesla, and thus there is no sign that the Anomaly is weakening. When Connor makes a goofy demonstration of this by letting the Anomaly pull in a metal canister, Lester is unimpressed by Connor's goofy and childish personality, but Cutter explains that despite the impression his demeanor may give Connor is very intelligent and useful to the Anomaly operation. Lester then turns off the live video link and discusses the situation with the Underground Anomaly with the Home Office official meeting; the Forest of Dean Anomaly was temporary, whereas the London Underground Anomaly is showing no signs that it will close soon. Cutter suggests that when the Anomalies close, they actually just temporarily fade and never completely disappear; Lester doubts this theory as it would mean that creatures would have to have come through the Anomalies before, and Cutter suggests that they may have indeed and could have been recorded in the myths and legends of ancient human cul
