The single largest piece of remaining work relates to playback. The 'primary' Fluid synthesiser will remain the default, as is the case with MuseScore 3 but we will be removing the the'secondary' Zerberus sampler/synthesiser and replacing it with VST support (Zerberus is incompatible with the GPL3 license, which we needed to switch to in order to support VST3). We are also developing an optional sound library that will not be packaged with MuseScore, which can be downloaded and activated (for free) once the application has been installed. We will create a separate detailed post about this shortly.
We are also in the process of creating a page for further MuseScore 3 support details - if you use the Kontakt instrument, we will have something specific to guide you to create a MuseScore project that works well with Kontakt and MuseScore 3 projects. We are also working on a MuseScore 3 tutorial for people who want to use MuseScore 3 with Kontakt/Kronos. This should be available in November.
We have been somewhat negligent with regard to MuseScore 3 support, but we are determined to remedy that in the future. We would like to thank all the MuseScore 3 users who have tried and tested this library for us.
11. Create an Inspector for each of the Library genres (House, EDM, Funk, etc.): a user interface for each genre that allows the user to visualise and edit instrument sounds that fit the genre.
A quick warning on the 'Inspector': you need to make sure that the files are in the correct folder structure, otherwise the software will just be creating a mess. I have spent a fair amount of time cleaning up the library so that you will have fewer headaches in the future.
Of course, we know that not everyone is going to want to run MuseScore on Windows. And so, we plan to run MuseScore on Linux (via Wine on Windows) as well. The main issue here is that we need a lot of external libraries and we're just not at the stage where we can support Wine directly. We'd like to have a version of MuseScore 4 running on other platforms by the summer.
We will be looking at offering MuseScore 4 on all major platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux), although only Windows is the priority. The reason for this is that MuseScore runs on Windows and we can easily port to Linux or Mac. It is already possible to run MuseScore 4 on Linux via Wine and it was simple for us to port MuseScore 3. 827ec27edc
