iWork was initially sold as a suite for $79, then later at $19.99 per app on OS X and $9.99 per app on iOS. Apple announced in October 2013 that all iOS and OS X devices purchased onwards,[7] whether new or refurbished, were eligible for a free download of all three iWork apps. iWork for iCloud, which also incorporates a document hosting service, is free to all holders of an iCloud account. iWork was released as freeware for macOS and iOS in April 2017.
On October 22, 2013, Apple announced an overhaul of the iWork software for both the Mac and iOS. Both suites were made available via the respective App Stores. The update is free for current iWork owners[15] and was also made available free of charge for anyone purchasing an OS X or iOS device after October 1, 2013.[16] Any user activating the newly free iWork apps on a qualifying device can download the same apps on another iOS or OS X device logged into the same App Store account.
iWork.com was a free service that enabled users to share iWork '09 documents online directly from within Pages, Keynote and Numbers.Users could click the iWork.com toolbar icon and login using their Apple ID to upload a document and invite others to view it online. Viewers could leave comments and notes on the document and download a copy in iWork, Microsoft Office, or PDF formats. Document owners could track comments at the iWork.com website.
Although iWork is called \"a successor to AppleWorks\" by Apple,[2] it does not have the functions of AppleWorks's database and drawing tools. Also, it does not compete directly with the Mac version of Microsoft Office, but instead offers tools with a different focus (presentation, rather than analysis) at a lower price. It is made to integrate with other applications from Apple's iLife Suite. Although iLife comes free on every Mac, iWork is sold separately. From February to March 2008, a free 30-day trial of iWork was installed on every new Mac bought during that time, but now the trial must be downloaded from online. It is still given with copies of iLife. It was later sold for $19.99 per app on OS X and $9.99 per app on iOS. In October 2013 Apple announced that all iOS and OS X devices purchased onwards, whether new or refurbished, were eligible for a free download of all three iWork apps. iWork for iCloud, which also incorporates a document hosting service, is free to all holders of an iCloud account. iWork was released as freeware for macOS and iOS in April 2017. In September 2016, Apple announced that the real-time collaboration feature would be available for all iWork apps.
Microsoft does offer its apps for free, but they often have limitations. For example, if you download Microsoft Word on your Mac you can't edit or create new documents; you can only read existing ones. To unlock everything, you need an active Office 365 subscription, which starts at $70 per year!
Existing users can download Apple's iWork updates for free via the iOS or Mac App Store. Pages, Numbers and Keynote for iOS come in at 275MB, 233MB and 510MB, respectively, while the same apps weigh in at 224MB, 166MB and 465MB on Mac. New users can purchase the apps on iOS for $9.99 each, or on Mac for $19.99 each.
The web-based cloud version can be run in a browser (Not all browsers are fully supported; when you try it in Firefox, it says that it is an unsupported browser, but seems to work anyway, though it is possible some features aren't fully functional), and is free for iCloud users. The app versions are paid, though apparently they come free with newly-purchased iOS devices since late 2013; they will sync automatically with iCloud to access cloud-stored documents.
iWork (including Pages, Keynote, and Numbers) is free to use or download for all iOS or macOS devices and computers. This means anyone with access to these devices can use iWork, create, edit, present, share documents, and do many other things. iWork doesn't offer any enterprise plans. You can download the software from the App Store and use them on your iPhone, Mac, iPad, or iMac, as well as via iCloud for free. Anyone with an Apple device can work with iWork software without any limitations.
Windows users have their office suite and Mac users have iWork. Both application suites offer similar functionality and, until recently, a rather high price tag. According to a blog post on miloot.com, Mac users can now download the productivity suite free of charge. It seems Apple only intended to offer the free applications to users activating new OS X devices, but with a little work around, users of existing OS X Mavericks can get in on that action.
Having such a speedy, new fingerprint scanning device must have distracted me, because it took nearly a full week before I realized I had not taken advantage of the free downloads that came with the new hardware purchase.
During the keynote where the new iPhone 5S and 5C were announced, it was also stated that iMovie, iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote would be available as free downloads for all of the new iOS devices purchased after September 1, 2013.
After signing out, sign right back in with the same Apple ID. You can now navigate back to the App Store and download the iWork and iLife iOS apps for free (sadly Garage Band is not included in this offer). 153554b96e
